Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Rising To Surface



The rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is a species of salmonid which initially was native to tributaries of the Pacific Ocean. It has been introduced to many waterways in other countries over the last 200 years. Rainbow trout are a great freshwater inhabitant of Tasmania.

Tasmania has several glacial lakes, such as Lake St. Clair in the western center of the island. Lake St. Clair reaches a depth of 200 meters, making it the deepest lake in the Southern Hemisphere.
